Refurbishment of an old oil-mill into a vacation house for a four-member family. The design aims at re-defining the vernacular house without copying conventional architectural forms.

 

 

The single volume oil mill was refurbished into an open-plan space housing the sitting, dinning and cooking areas of the house with direct access to the south oriented terrace.

 

A tower-like two-storey extension is erected next to the existing oil-mill, housing the family’s bedrooms. The parent’s bedroom is located on the ground level while the children’s common bedroom is located on the first floor. The underground floor is used for general storage and is accessed externally.

 

The space, created between the new and the old construction, acts as the main entrance of the complex and connects, both functionally and morphologically, the living with the sleeping areas.
