Renovation and retrofitting.

 

The building comprises two semi-detached properties, and is located in Aghios Aimilianos, on the top of a hill, enjoying unobstructed panoramic views of the surrounding area and sea. It was constructed in the late 80’s but had remained mostly uninhabited as it had not been finished internally. In the ensuing years the building fell into disrepair, due to poor craftsmanship and total lack of maintenance.

 

The exterior of the whole building was renovated. All of the old plaster was removed and external thermal insulation was applied on the walls and the roof terrace. Due to both structural and aesthetic reasons the old and decrepit arched piers on the balconies’ outer perimeters were brought down and were replaced by arrays of horizontal wooden louvers on vertical metallic frames. Internally only the eastern of the two semi-detached properties was renovated and retrofitted.

 

The exterior spaces were organized with pebbled terraces, corridors, and planted areas. A pool, sunbathing areas and a pergola were introduced to the pre-existing but unformed lower level of the site.
