220,00 m²

Design 2010

A four member family residence with an independent guest house, set in an olive grove at the outskirts of Halkida. The site slopes towards the northeast, and is accessed by a public road running along its south/ southeast border.

The design aimed at achieving good solar orientation and a balanced relationship between the building and its outdoor areas so as to protect them both from over-exposure to sunlight and cold northern winds.

The combined need to a) provide privacy from the public road overlooking the site and b) integrate the building as much as possible to the existing landscape, led to a semi-buried solution, where the main building is conceived as a single and continuous volume that "emerges” from the ground making it almost impossible to distinguish the manmade green roof from the natural earth.

The guest house is located west of the main house. Having been planned to be built at a later stage it was designed as an independent volume, however sharing the same morphological features with the main residence; an offspring.
